René Halkett was member of the original - Staatliches Bauhaus Weimar. The words on this record are Halkett's and were recorded on a portable cassette recorder on his cottage in Cornwall on the 28th of July 1980.

The project was completed with Jay recording the music on this record at Beck Studio in Wellingborough on the 18th of April 1981.

AWESOME ALBUM

New album by Swans with a ridiculously awesome title “My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky” is set for release on September 21st via Michael Gira’s label Young God Records.

Gira commented on the album:

“THIS IS NOT A REUNION" It’s not some dumb-ass nostalgia act. It is not repeating the past. After 5 Angels Of Light albums, I needed a way to move FORWARD, in a new direction, and it just so happens that revivifying the idea of Swans is allowing me to do that.”

The album will feature contributions from Norman Westberg, Bill Rieflin, Christoph Hahn, and Phil Puleo (all of whom were playing with Swans in the past), as well as Chris Pravdica (Flux Information Sciences/Services) and Thor Harris (Shearwater). Gira’s three year old daughter Saoirse is also going to make an appearance on the record.

Beat studio guru Mike Mangino (Pink Noise, Pop-Tarts) and Chris Shepard (Pop-Tarts) formed Smersh as an experimental big-beat techno/industrial project and began releasing cassettes in 1981. Smersh recorded improvised cuts every Monday night, released countless cassettes on their own label, Atlas King, and were featured on more compilations than you can track down. They never played live, never played the same track more than once.
